Birdie & Ringer Contests

  • The CNWA Birdie and Ringer contests will open as of April 1 and end October 31. The ringer/birdie book will be available in the locker room as of April 1 and you can enter ringers and birdies in the book during the course of the season.
  • As a refresher of how ringer scores work: Your 18 hole ringer score is the total of your season best on each hole. You can fill in every hole based on the first round you play and any time you improve, update the score for that hole. If you improve on that hole again, update it again. You can also just fill in the scores that you consider to be good scores on each hole and leave the rest blank until you have what you consider a good score on that hole. To compete for prizes, you must have a score recorded by October 31 for each hole.  Prizes will be awarded for overall lowest gross ringer score and overall net ringer score as well as a gross and net winner for each flight.
  • For the birdie contest, record all birdies on the birdie sheet.  Each time you birdie a hole, put down the number of the hole (even if you’ve birdied that hole previously in the season).  Prizes will be awarded for most overall birdies, most overall holes birdied as well as most birdies and most holes birdied in each flight. Because we’re doing overall prizes as well as prizes in flights, these are contests in which everyone has a chance to excel regardless of your skill level or handicap.

Handicap Committee

The Commonwealth National Golf Club Handicap Committee is dedicated to ensuring fair and competitive play in accordance with USGA guidelines for handicap administration. Using Cap Patrol, we actively monitor members' daily play and tournament performance to maintain the integrity of the game. Based on this data, handicap adjustments may be applied to competitors in CNGC tournaments to reflect demonstrated ability and promote equitable competition. Our goal is to uphold the spirit of the game by providing a fair and transparent system for all members.

Commonwealth Pride

As you step onto the first tee, you’ll see a sign that embodies the heart of our club: "Commonwealth Pride... a shot really isn’t finished until the damage has been repaired. Being a golfer means finishing every shot." This simple yet powerful message defines our shared responsibility to maintain and respect the course we call home.

The Commonwealth Pride Pledge is more than just fixing ball marks, replacing divots, or keeping the course clean—it’s about honoring the game and fostering a culture of respect. Playing without delay, leading by example, and treating fellow members, guests, and staff with courtesy all contribute to the exceptional golf experience we value. This is your home away from home, and the Commonwealth spirit is what makes it truly special.

Pace of Play

Pace of play is essential to ensuring an enjoyable experience for all golfers on the course.

Playing efficiently—while still maintaining proper etiquette—helps keep the game moving, prevents backups, and allows everyone to enjoy their round without unnecessary delays.  Please help us by following these simple guidelines:

  • Pace of Play is expected to be 4 hours and 10 minutes.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot control the weather, but we can have a big hand on improving pace of play. Here are a few reminders to keep things moving out there!
  • Each member of a group should proceed directly to his or her ball. The group should not travel as a pack, going first to one ball, then the next, and so on.
  • While walking (or riding) to your ball, use the travel time to begin thinking over your next shot - the yardage, which club you'll use, and so on. Begin preparing before you get to your ball. Take several clubs with you when using the range finder or GPS. I often see players leave their cart with only their range finder, shooting their distance and returning back to the cart for clubs. The range finder is supposed to expedite play, doing it in the wrong sequence adds precious minutes to your round.
  • If sharing a cart, don't drive to the first ball, wait for the first player to hit, then head to the second ball. Drop the first player off at his ball, drive on ahead to the second ball. The first player should walk over to the cart as the second player is playing his shot.
  • When using a cart on a cart-path-only day, be sure to take a couple of clubs with you when you walk from the cart to the ball. This way, you won't have to return to the cart if you discover you didn't bring the appropriate club.
  • Watch your time on the putting surfaces, the putting green is undoubtedly the biggest cause of slow play. Read and line up your putt while others are putting. You can easily read and surmise your putt without interfering with the individual putting.
  • If you ask the question, “Should I hit a provisional?” The answer is “yes”. Don’t drive or walk ahead to search, only to have to return to the original spot to replay a shot.
  • Lastly, from an etiquette stand point, if a group is continually waiting on you and your group (regardless of your pace), and there is not a group directly if front of you, allow faster players to play through.

NOTES

  • Our Caddie Master has been proactive in response to member demand in scheduling and assigning caddies ahead of time. With on-demand caddie scheduling, our walking and riding policy has been updated. With this policy it is vital that members are diligent in selecting the proper mode of transportation when making a tee time reservation. Anyone with CADDIE as their selected mode of transportation will have a caddie assigned to them and will be responsible for the caddie fee.
  • One important aspect to this policy pertains to the staffing of caddies. Previously, caddies would come and wait to get out. Often caddies would wait for several hours and not get out for employment, this policy made caddie retention very difficult.
  • The tee sheet will be reviewed on Friday for Saturday and Saturday for Sunday. Caddies will be assigned for all members designating they desire a caddie. Members taking a caddie will not be charged a trail fee.
  • Members 18 and under with golf privileges will not be subjected to the trail fee.
  • Members who request a caddie are obligated to take a caddie. If a member decides day of, prior to the round, they will take a cart, the member must still pay the caddie or take that caddie as a forecaddie.
  • The booking of all caddies must go through the Caddie Master. Members may not be permitted to book their own caddie but can request a specific caddie to the Caddie Master
